Busy is for Bees.

I was recently asked to speak at an event alongside some other business owners. My first thought was “UGH – I am SO busy… how am I going to fit ANOTHER thing in my schedule??”

I had to check that reflex and say to myself, LADY – what the hell is wrong with you? Don’t hide behind your schedule. It’s an honor to be asked!

The event was designed to introduce local businesses to students looking for internships or their first professional jobs. There I was standing among well-known companies and startups from our Tech District, showcasing my business to students and peers. And doing it from a platform of mentorship, which is the core pillar of my belief system.

Six short years ago, I couldn’t see this life that now includes running my own business. I was feeling lost, confused, and most of all, afraid of being transparent in what I did not know. It can be easy to hide behind “busy” as a blocking mechanism when you are feeling this way.

Being open to requests for things that scare the daylights out of you are the things that create explosive growth, meaningful connections, repeat business, and most importantly, a seat at the table to help others on the come up. THAT is what being in demand is all about.
